So I Want to Chant, But How?

(Photo above by Budgeron Bach)

Buddhability is an ability we all have to change our lives. But how do we manifest that on the daily? That’s where chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo comes in.

When we chant, we’re tapping into our inner Buddhability, which gives us the courage, wisdom and compassion to change our lives and the world around us for the better. We are reminding ourselves that, even in the face of challenges, we have the grit to overcome them and use them as fuel for our growth. And we can inspire others to do the same.

Creating Your Space

If you’re just starting out, it’s good to find a space in your home with no distractions so you can focus on chanting. Here are some of our friends at Buddhability explaining in more detail what you can do to set up your space.

Should I Try to Clear My Mind?

The purpose of chanting is to become happy and awaken to the fact that you have the ability to change your life and the people around you. So, if you want to chant to calm yourself down and find peace within, that’s all good! Or, if you want to chant about a specific goal like your friend getting the job they want, that’s awesome too.

There’s no set rule about what you “should” or “should not” think about while chanting. Just be yourself and whatever is on your mind, feel free to chant about it. If it helps you to write down your goals, go for it! There’s no limit to what we can achieve when we chant.

Anyone Can Do It

You may have practiced saying Nam-myoho-renge-kyo out loud with the video above, so you’re already a pro! When you’re first starting out, chanting for even 2 minutes can feel long and no pressure on the length. Most important is how you feel.

So you don’t feel alone as you’re starting out, here are some chanting speeds you can begin with, and if you want to speed up, totally up to you. Have fun chanting!
