It’s hard not to obsess about the past and think about what could’ve been. But the more we give into such beliefs the more risk them becoming self-fulfilling prophecies.
Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo allows us to see the deeper meaning of our problems and setbacks. We discover that it is precisely because we faced setbacks that now we must win, so we can prove that our past does not define us.
Buddhism also always places importance on our intent and actions in the present, which shape our future. It stresses living with the forward-looking spirit of “From this moment on!”
